A plowed field near Sharon Center produced more than 10,000 Clovis-era spear points. About 80% were made from stone that only outcrops 500 miles south.

About a mile northwest of the Sharon Center traffic circle, a local artist spotted worked stone in a plowed field. The Cleveland Museum of Natural History's excavation between 1990 and 1993 recovered more than 10,000 Clovis-era stone tools. Sharon Township covers 26.1 square miles with a 2020 population of 5,966 and is run by three elected trustees plus a fiscal officer. The Administration Building is at 1322 Sharon Copley Road, PO Box 7, Sharon Center OH 44274, 330.239.4406. Trustees meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm, the Zoning Commission the 3rd Thursday at 6:00 pm and the Board of Zoning Appeals the 2nd and 4th Wednesday at 7:00 pm. The township runs Zoning, Roads and Maintenance, Parks, Cemetery and Fire, and owns Town Hall, the post office building, the fire station, Sharon Circle, Sharon Community Park and the cemetery. Sharon Center is the unincorporated community at the geographic centre of Sharon Township, with 918 residents at the 2020 census. Its centre is a traffic circle where State Route 94, Ridge Road, meets State Route 162, Sharon Copley Road, with a park inside holding a gazebo and veterans memorials. Trustees rebuilt the circle with a new gazebo, upgraded electrical and sound, more parking and new landscaping, and concerts marking the re opening began in July 2025. Clustered around it are the township Administration Building, the Sharon Center post office with its own 44274 ZIP code, the fire station, Town Hall, Sharon Center United Methodist Church and Boyert Insurance Group. How did Sharon Township Ohio get its name

Sharon Township was organised and named in 1831 on Connecticut Western Reserve land, after earlier being called Hart and Mathers and then Gask. Asenath Hayden suggested naming it Sharon after her Connecticut home town. Settlement of Sharon Center began in 1816, a school was operating by 1822 near the Granger border, Methodist services began in homes in 1832 with an 1842 church building still in use, and an 1852 Universalist church was later converted into Town Hall. The post office opened as Sharon Centre in 1833 and the spelling changed to Sharon Center in 1893. The Sharon Township Heritage Society keeps the township's history in an 1840 community house and meets the third Wednesday of each month at 7:30 pm, 330.239.1755.

Green Leaf Park is a 97.35 acre Medina County Park District park at Medina Line Road and State Route 162 in the southeast corner of Sharon Township, on the Summit County line. It was the first land the county developed as a park and was once a gravel pit. It has two easy trails of 0.43 and 0.25 miles, a 0.85 acre fishing pond, a 1.5 acre forested wetland, a football and soccer field, a reservable open air shelter, a playground, picnic facilities and a sledding hill. Biking is not allowed. An early 1800s Hard family log home, one of the oldest known houses in Medina County, was moved here by the Sharon Historical Society, with a native shade garden maintained by the Medina County Herb Society. Open daily 6 a.m. to one hour past sunset.

The Oenslager Nature Center sits in the 248 acre Alderfer-Chatfield Wildlife Sanctuary on Ridge Road, State Route 94, in Sharon Township, run by the Medina County Park District. The original 103 acres came from Ruth and George Oenslager with 145 more added in 1999, and the building opened in 2000 with a gathering room, laboratory, library, classroom and indoor bird observation area. There are over four miles of trail including a 0.38 mile paved accessible loop, plus wetlands with a boardwalk, two ponds, meadows, a pine forest and Dragonfly Knoll, a natural play space. The sanctuary is open daily 6 a.m. to one hour past sunset; the center is open Tuesday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday noon to 5 p.m. Biking, fishing, pets and picnicking are not permitted. It was formerly the Wolf Creek Environmental Center.

Sharon Nature Preserve on State Road in Sharon Township was acquired by the Medina County Park District in 2014. It protects high quality wetlands with large sugar maples and a wet sedge meadow along Wolf Creek, where a survey documented close to forty types of trees and shrubs. There is a 0.4 mile hiking trail and a twenty car parking lot. Leashed pets are allowed, biking is not, and it is open daily dawn until dusk.

What is a dry hydrant and why does my Ohio subdivision have a pond

Section 606 of the Sharon Township Zoning Resolution requires any residential subdivision without central water to build either a county water main with hydrants every 300 to 500 feet, approved by the Sharon Township Fire Department, or a fire pond with a dry hydrant system built to the Medina County Engineer's specification, with dry hydrants every 2,000 feet and each certified as a Recognized Drafting Point. A fire pond carries a $20,000 two year cash bond, and no zoning certificate is issued for any building until the county engineer and the fire department approve the dry hydrant. The township maintains the dry hydrant and the water source under a permanent easement, lot owners cannot modify or drain the pond without the fire department's written approval, and the cost of unapproved repairs can be levied against property in the subdivision. Dredging for silt is the pond owner's cost.
