Guilford Township is split almost in half between two districts. Medina County's own school district and tax district records put Cloverleaf Local over about 72 percent of the township's land and Wadsworth City Schools over about 28 percent, which works out close to even by house: roughly 511 residential parcels on the Cloverleaf side and 523 on the Wadsworth side. Wadsworth City Schools names Guilford in its own territory description. The township's own links page lists three districts, adding Rittman. No part of Guilford is Black River. The parcel number itself tells you which: a Guilford parcel beginning 008 is Cloverleaf and one beginning 009 is Wadsworth City. Confirm at the parcel.

When do Guilford Township trustees meet

Guilford Township Hall is at 3800 Greenwich Road, Seville, OH 44273, 330-769-1929. Trustees meet at 7:30 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at the hall, and the Zoning Commission meets the second Thursday. The township is governed by three elected trustees and an elected fiscal officer, and it provides road and bridge maintenance, cemetery maintenance, zoning, and fire and EMS. There is no township police force; the township directs residents to the Medina County Sheriff and the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The township was established in 1819.

Does Guilford Township Ohio have city water and sewer

Guilford Township has no central water or sewer of its own. The township's 2025 Comprehensive Development Policy Plan says every residential lot outside Seville Village and Rittman City is on a well and septic system, that it does not envisage central water or sewer in the near future, and that extensions shall be severely discouraged. The Seville Board of Public Affairs, however, says it serves the Village of Seville and a portion of Guilford and Westfield Township with electric, water and sewer, so some Guilford addresses are on village utilities. Septic permits and pre-sale water system evaluations go through the Medina County Health Department, 330-723-9688 option 3, which collects the water sample itself and recommends evaluating both systems before purchase.

Who provides electric service in Guilford Township Ohio

Guilford Township lists three utilities for residents: FirstEnergy, trading as Ohio Edison, the Seville Board of Public Affairs, and Wadsworth's city utility. Seville's Board of Public Affairs says it serves the village and a portion of Guilford and Westfield Township with electric, water and sewer, so the electric provider depends on the address. For natural gas, the Medina County aggregation program's own FAQ says most residential and small business customers in the county's unincorporated townships qualify and are delivered by either Enbridge Gas Ohio or Columbia Gas of Ohio. Neither the township's site nor its 2025 development plan mentions internet or broadband at all, and Wadsworth's CityLink fiber answers availability only by address lookup.

Who picks up trash in Guilford Township Ohio

The Medina County Solid Waste District does not collect trash and says collection is designated by the city, village or township where you live; Guilford Township's own list of services does not include trash, so households arrange their own hauler. The district does run a single stream recycling drop-off at Guilford Township Hall, 3800 Greenwich Road, with three containers emptied Monday, Wednesday and Friday, taking paper, cardboard, metal and aluminium cans, glass bottles and jars, and plastic bottles, jugs, tubs and clear clamshells. Nearby drop-offs are at Westfield Township Municipal Center, Westfield Center Village Hall, and the district's own campus at 8730 Lake Road.

Who plows the roads in Guilford Township Ohio

Guilford Township maintains about thirty roads, the Medina County Engineer about twenty more, and the Ohio Department of Transportation handles the state routes. The township says plowing starts at 3:30 a.m. and takes about three hours, Blake Road first, salt above 20 degrees and light stone below, and it asks that cars stay off the roads from 3:00 to 8:00 a.m. during snow. Driveway and ditch permits come from the Medina County Engineer. Road supervisor Andy Liston is at 330-975-4288. Ohio law sets township roads at 55 miles per hour unless reduced. Interstate 76 crosses the full width of the township and Interstate 71 clips its north west corner; the state routes inside it are State Route 3, signed Wooster Pike, and a short stretch of State Route 57 in the north east corner.

What is the minimum lot size in Guilford Township Ohio

In Guilford Township's Residential district the minimum lot is whichever is larger, four acres per family unit or whatever the Medina County Health Department requires for a septic lot, with a minimum lot width of 210 feet and a 75 foot setback from the right of way of any road. Side and rear yards are 20 feet, height is capped at 35 feet, basement houses are prohibited, and minimum first floor area ranges from 1,400 square feet for a one story without a basement to 900 for a two story with one. Back lots on an access way need five acres. Every lot of record predating the resolution stays buildable, and the township reports that 61.7 percent of its lots are under four acres, while 59.3 percent of its land sits on lots over twenty acres.

What watershed is Guilford Township Ohio in

Guilford Township is in the Chippewa Creek watershed, which drains south east to the Tuscarawas River and on to the Muskingum and the Ohio River, not north to the Black River or Lake Erie. River Styx is one of the Chippewa's tributaries. The Chippewa Subdistrict of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District, established in 1960, manages a flood control system built between 1956 and 1980 with eight dams, five in Medina County and three in Wayne, and 33 miles of improved channel, covering 188 square miles. Hubbard Valley Dam, Dam III-A, is in Guilford Township, and Hubbard Valley Park's lake is its reservoir. Where is Hubbard Valley Park Ohio

Hubbard Valley Park is a Medina County Park District park at 8600 Hubbard Valley Road, Seville, in Guilford Township. Its 21 acre lake takes shore, rowboat and canoe fishing, and the park district says its other ponds and lakes do not require a fishing licence, unlike Chippewa Lake, Chippewa Inlet and the Rocky River. The park has picnic areas, a pavilion, restrooms, a playground, a sledding hill, a soccer field, a baseball field and sand volleyball, plus the 1.25 mile Trillium Trail around the lake and a 0.6 mile paved all persons trail. The lake is the reservoir behind Hubbard Valley Dam, built by the Chippewa Subdistrict for flood control.

Where is River Styx Park Ohio

River Styx Park is an 83.27 acre Medina County Park District preserve at 8200 River Styx Road, Wadsworth, which the park district places in Guilford Township. It is open daily from 6 a.m. to one hour past sunset. Trails are a 0.375 mile paved wheelchair accessible loop, a 0.75 mile pink-marked nature trail and a 0.375 mile blue-marked nature trail. There is a 3.7 acre stocked pond with an accessible fishing platform, a reservable open air shelter, restrooms, picnic tables and a playground installed in June 2024. Hiking, bird watching, fishing, canoeing, kayaking and paddleboarding are listed, and the park district names migrating neo-tropical songbirds as what the site is known for, peaking in May.

Weltzien Skypark, FAA identifier 15G, is a privately owned airport open to the public at 3071 Greenwich Road, Wadsworth, inside Guilford Township. Aviation references give it 26 acres with a single asphalt runway of 2,410 by 37 feet at 1,210 feet elevation. The airport offers flight instruction, aircraft rentals, fuel and on-site lodging for active flight students, at 330-615-2684. A residential airpark surrounds it: county records show 67 parcels on Skypark, Skylane and Skyway Drives and Star Lane, all on the Wadsworth City School District side of the township, most of them under an acre and therefore pre-existing lots of record under the township's four acre minimum.

Where is Maple Lakes Campground Ohio

Maple Lakes Campground is at 4275 Blake Road, Seville, in Guilford Township. Its own site gives the season as 15 April to 15 October, with the office open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. It describes itself as north east of downtown Seville, about twenty miles west of Akron and roughly thirty miles south east of Cleveland, near the I-76 and I-71 intersection, and it takes seasonal camper applications as well as nightly reservations.

When was Guilford Township Ohio founded

Guilford Township was established in 1819 as Township Number 14, Range 14 West of the Connecticut Western Reserve, a year after Medina County was created, with first arrivals in 1816 and permanent settlers in 1817 who built a communal log house near Hubbard Creek. Four hamlets grew inside it: Seville, named by founder Henry Hosmer and plotted in 1828; River Styx, formerly Wilson's Corners, renamed for its mythological connections and the swamp to the south; Acme, formerly Millersburg; and Blake, formerly Steamtown. The township still runs two cemeteries under sexton Anita Winkler, 330-464-4000: Mound Hill on Main Street in Seville, established 1824, and River Styx Cemetery at 8101 River Styx Road, begun in 1821, which contains a gated vault dating to 1844.

There is no library building in Guilford Township, and two systems serve it. The Wadsworth Ella M. Everhard Public Library at 132 Broad Street, Wadsworth, is an independent library whose published service area is the city of Wadsworth, Wadsworth Township and parts of Guilford Township.
